yet another example of the “MAC SUX PC ROX”-type posts

My BF has a zune! He had an ipod first though and it broke, though I dont think the software in the zune is as good it does appear to be more durable-- though at the expense of being sleek enough to fit in a pocket.

I love my columbia jacket. shrug

I have none of these. The only thing I’ve got is a four year old Ipod…and I love it!

Ooh, my iPod’s four years old, too.

I have a MacBook…I’m using it now. I think (when I was looking at computers a while ago, anyway) most comparable laptops were bulkier than this one and I like to drag it to school a lot. I can hardly imagine carrying around the computer I always used before this (15" Toshiba), which wasn’t nearly as often, but still. I also prefer the color on this one compared to that other computer.
And on Windows I’d open my programs in a certain order so their tabs at the bottom of the screen would be in that order, so if I accidentally quit out of one, the order would be messed up. Kind of OCD-ish, but yeah.

The North Face jackets sound pretty warm…I was thinking about getting one for college, actually. Or something similar. It’s really rare to see one around school now, though. After all, it’s about 80 degrees in February. I can think of four people with something like them in my years in high school.

iPhones…if I was offered one, I’d take it. Basically. Not JUST because it’s an iPhone, but it has a lot of the features I’d want. Especially since my iPod’s a little outdated. But if I already had a newer iPod, I’m not so sure I’d take an iPhone as quickly.

I don’t own any of the three, but I have cheaper variants of them that have the same or better functionality.

BTW, girls with big ass Ugg boots drive me insane! Even more so when they wear them with shorts. I live in Texas, you don’t need Eskimo-looking boots here to keep you warm.

^ thats hilariously sad.

where i live its too cold for northface to keep you warm (ha!) most people go with columbia. and yes, ugg boots are everywhere.

I have a macbook and i love it. pricy yet worth it.

and i have a thing with buying extremely cheap cell phones off ebay. my last phone was 5 dollars. hehe im just a economic edd i guess

but owning none or all three items doesnt necesarily equate into being “insert affluent label here” or “insert another label here” I just get that feeling from all the people saying what they have and then justifying why they dont/do have it.

Try walking around campus, and seeing guys with Ugg boots. It’s so weird.

Last night I had a dream I bought uggs. I didn’t like them, didn’t want them, and was ashamed to have anyone see me in them, but I bought them anyway.

o.O

All 3 of these items are pretty ubiquitous at my school as well. What’s worse is that my school gives everyone a free laptop to all students their freshmen year, and then gives them a newer model in the beginning of their junior year and there are still a lot of people with Macs.

Patagonia and Mountain Hardware are pretty popular as well.

I prefer Patagonia rather than TNF just because a lot of its stuff can actually be used for outdoor activities and will hold up a lot better than TNF. Even though Patagonia is pretty pricey (ditto to TNF and Mountain Hardware as well), anyone can mail order from their outlets and its usually just surplus of old seasonal colors … I got one of their $200 jackets for 50 bucks that way four years ago and it’s still going strong!

On the phone side, I can honestly say that 90% of the people here have either an iPhone or a Blackberry.

Same (myself included). I just think that college students are on their phones enough to justify the price–Not saying that you SHOULD spend $100-200 on a single phone, but thinking in terms of cost-per-use, it’s probably pretty comparably low.

I like my iPhone, but it’s nothing ridiculously special. I think when my contract’s up, I may get a Blackberry simply because the touchscreen gets dirty so easily and I like having physical keys. I’m not going to complain about it until then though, because it does everything I need it to and more.

^

On the phone side, the initial upfront cost of smart phones is very low. However, the data plans are very expensive and the total cost of ownership for a iPhone or similar smartphone/blackberry is around 2000$ over the course of two years. 100$-200$ is not that much for a phone, considering the non-subsidized price of these phones is around the 500$ range. The real wallet killer is the contract and the monthly payments.

I’m a little confused by people who buy things that are a way higher quality than they would ever need - you don’t need a MacBook Pro to browse the web and write papers, and you don’t need a high-end hiking jacket to walk to class. But if someone can afford it, I guess that’s their choice.

I don’t like Uggs (not vegan) or North Face (too pricy/ugly) either, but why all the hate on girls who wear them for comfort? I’m actually aware that I don’t look attractive in sweatpants, but if I’m just hanging around the library all day, it doesn’t matter.

At college are northfaces popular? At my school that was merely a middle school fad…

macbook-no.
iphone-does ipod touch count?
northface- had one but lost it lol

Macbook: yes. Love it. I’m technologically inept. I had windows computers and had viruses every 2 days that, without my dad, I wouldnt be able to deal with at all.
It’s also a lot easier to switch between wireless networks here and stuff like that, and as far as I’m concerned the user friendliness, coupled by how helpful the genius bar employees have been anytime any apple good of mine has been broken, makes it worth the extra couple bucks. My old Acer laptop broke and they made me ship it out, kept it for a few weeks, and then told me that they couldnt fix it or replace it and would just refund me $500- half the price of the original computer, and it was less than 8 months old. Ridiculous.

iPhone: nope. have a ****ty $5 nokia. the iphone is nice, but I just text, and texting doesnt justify a 30 bucks a month data plan.

Northface: have it, really like it, wear it during the fall and spring when i need something warmer than my other sweatshirts but not as hardcore as my puffy down jacket.

iPod: have a 3 or 4 year old nano that i love love love.

and Uggs: have them. sorry, but it’s cold enough here that I think they’re justified. I originally had fake ones that were way cheaper, but you can definitely feel and see the difference in quality and workmanship, and the Uggs last so much longer. They’re comfortable and warm and great for when it’s approx 4 degrees with windchill out, even though my boyfriend hates them.

Iphone - check
Macbook - no but I have a super cute mini baby pc (I’m a girl so duh!)
NorthFace jacket - nope, too common, got one from Fleicsher couture which has only made about 400, and it’s purple (which is the main reason I bought it). A bit warmer than my northface that I have given to my sis.

Some of you are coming off a bit arrogant… It appears you’re making generalizations about why some people have these products. The only reason I have an iPhone is because my dad wanted to buy me something special for christmas. The reason I have a macbook is because I had a dell laptop for 3 years that was so terrible, my mother told my dad he needed to buy me a new computer (several keys wouldn’t work, if it came unplugged it would turn off, it would randomly shut down, etc). He decided to buy me a macbook because its pretty light and easy to carry around for classes. I also sometimes suffer with technology and the MacBook has been really helpful in the sense that I no longer call my dad at 2am asking him how to do something with my dell. The northface I got in 8th grade because I needed a new jacket and I still use it, 5 years later. Uggs are something I’m iffy about. They definitely keep you warm in really cold weather, but at the same time they are not the most attractive shoes out there.

The only thing on that list I have is an iPhone.
I have a love/hate relationship. It freezes. A lot - all the time, actually. And having to constantly update it every other week is irritating. There are several times when I have to resist the urge to climb to my apartment’s rooftop and hurl it into traffic.

A lot of people wonder why I carry a separate MP3 player when I have an iPhone. I do because of the above annoyances. I’ve had my Creative Zen for about four-ish years. I love it. I’ll never go to the iPod.

But I do like the huge amount of apps. I love the apps, hate the phone.
I can’t complain too much; it was free. I do want to try out the Droid though.

I don’t have an iPhone, because AT&T service sucks. I have a palm pre plus with verizon instead
I did/do have an iPod but I never use it (yea, i’m kindda old school and prefer CDs) I’m not even sure where it’s at.

I have a PC, but I am getting a Mac over the summer (for college in the fall). The university I’m going to requires you to have either their type of PC (which are very slow) or a Mac, so I’m choosing the Mac.

I have 2 North Face jackets, and I love them. And yes they are SWPL, but I don’t mind because I fit the category.

I also own uggs, they are soo comfortable, plus where I live it actually gets cold. I do hate it when girls wear uggs with shorts or skirts (esp. in the summer). That’s when it gets ridiculous.

I have an iPhone. I love the phone, hate AT&T.

I just got a new PC. LOVE it. I really really don’t like using Macs.

I have some North Face stuff. I think mostly gifts, but they’re so warm. Don’t hate haha

Uggs have their own place in the world. I agree that they have no business being worn between may and september. But they’re so comfy and warm.
