Macy's Closings (125 stores)

We had 2 small malls in my city each with two department stores. One of the malls lost the Macy’s a few years ago and the building still sits empty. That mall has a Nordstrom that keeps getting smaller and smaller with not a lot of merchandise. The Macys in that mall was a nice store that carried some higher end brands and had a decent dress department. The other mall is anchored by a Macy’s and a large Sears. The Sears closed a few months ago leaving another huge open empty spot. Years ago both malls were decent and full of stores and we would go just to browse. One of the malls just lost Tiffany’s and the Papyrus and has a lot of random businesses moving in and empty storefronts.
The remaining Macy’s is a pretty messy mess. The merchandise is of a lower price point and just not displayed well. The shoe department has become like a Payless. No sales people and the shoes are self serve. It’s hard to find a checkout counter or anyone to help you. I feel badly for the sales staff.
I order almost all my shoes online. Zappos is great, free shipping both directions. 6 PM if I know what I want. They don’t have free returns so I don’t order u less I know I’m keeping it. I also order a lot of clothing from Zappos. They are great in that you order and it’s at the doorstep in just a few days. I also order from a few independent shoe brands that are mainly just online.
Costco- I don’t buy pants from there but I do sometimes buy tops and jackets. I buy my H shorts from Costco. I also had great luck ordering my D a bunch of jackets from Costco. She returned to her local store the ones that didn’t fit.

@TomSrOfBoston You buy in a size you think will fit from a company that allows free returns if it doesn’t.

Costco size is pretty big. And they never have anything less than S. There S is like a regular M, it feels.

I really hope the Macy’s at our local mall doesn’t close. Their price is amazing!

Actually, sometimes Costco online has XS where the store only starts at a size S. Still, sizes are so big that generally there’s no way D (size 00) can fit many of the things from Costco.

It is nice to have stores where you can see and feel the fabric and try garments on.

Our Macy’s in HI tend to have extensive petites depts because we gave a lot of shorter people who love and visit our state.

My local Macys has a very small petite dept. I tried shopping there a few times and eventually gave up. Talbots has a nice sized petite dept but they don’t have a consistent petite size so sometimes their petite clothing fits me and sometimes it is too long.

Costco is hit or miss regarding if something will fit me but since returning is so easy and I’m at that store so often, that I don’t mind dealing with the returns. But if I am successful - the price is generally pretty darn good!

Our local Macy’s that is <5 miles from our house has a decent petites department and we have found some nice things for D there. I hope it stays, nut who knows?
