Mad at people who get extra credit?

So at our school on 420 there was a shooting threat written on the wall.

on that day of school some people were really scared and decided not to show up. Other people were a little scared and wanted to get out of school so they didn’t come. A lot of people heard that they didn’t have to go to school if they didn’t want to, so they didnt come. A lot more people got to school that morning, learned that they could leave if they wanted to so they left. And others throughout the day learned that you could leave whenever you wanted so they left in the first few periods.

By 4th period that day there was only about 10-15% of our student body left.

Because we couldn’t continue class, one of the teachers decided to give an extra credit in-class game (which was really like one question that everyone knew) worth 20 extra credit points to prove a point. He said that by not coming, they (the people that didn’t come) were supporting terrorism and if they didn’t feel safe coming that day, then they really shouldn’t feel any safer any other day.

The following monday when everybody was in school again, a few kids who decided not to come freaked out that the 6/28 students in his class that did come got 20 pts ec while they didn’t. They argued that they should get ec too because its not fair.

The teacher defended himself that if they were truly felt their safety was in jeopardy, it would be worth more than a few ec points to them; and that they should be mad at the 80% of the student body that left just to get out of school.

Do you think that the teacher was justified in giving the 20 ec points?
Whats your opinion on the whole situation?

i’ve tried to remain as objective as possible in describing the situation, just ask if you need any more facts

I think the teacher just thought most of the kids weren’t afraid and were just trying to get out of class, so he wanted to punish the kids who didn’t come…but of course he had to make up some sort of “terrorist” excuse so he could get away with it. He probably treated it as an administratively-sanctioned skip day.

He seems a bit jaded/insensitive, but hey, it’s only extra credit points. If he had actually been deducting points, that’s another story.

I think the teacher’s an idiot.

Then again, I don’t really believe in easy extra credit either.

Naah. My Latin teacher does that when some people go on field trips. Then again, I think the teacher should offer the extra credit ato the others because they didn’t know about it.
