Ok i put 30k in the income section rather than 25k income because it hought that you had to put TOTAL income… My mom gets 25k + 5k TIPS a year so i was expecting to put 30k but i found out that you had to put your taxable income as said on your 1040 irs… Am i screwed? Should i call them?

No you’re not…just call the financial aid department and fix it. Students make mistakes on their applications all the time.

And since when are those tips not taxable?

Agree with dodgers mom. The tips are taxable income. If she is not declaring it on her 1040, that is tax fraud.

The 30k figure is correct.

Sounds like your mom is not declaring tips, which she is supposed to do.

The issuer of the W-2 is usually required to include tips according to a formula. The tips should be already accounted for on the tax return. You should use the amounts on your mom’s tax return, and she should verify that she is filing correctly. Don’t take tax advice from online forums. Discuss it with your mom.
