Mail today?

So it’s 8:30. The letter I put out at 6:30 AM is still there. Given the number of catalogues per day that we have been “gifted” with these last few weeks, I doubt that we had no mail after a three day weekend. We are in the middle of a very suburban neighborhood, not some rural outpost.
Has anybody ever had the post office just not service their neighborhood after a holiday?
My interest is that Amazon shipped DHs birthday gifts via UPS/UPS so now the present that should have arrived via UPS on Sarurday still isn’t here.
Grumble, grumble, I know there are more important problems in the world, grumble, grumble…

Sometimes, when the sub is on, we don’t get service, but I call the PO by 3 PM to tell them, and then they come out.

I have sarcastically called my post office on a few occasions and asked if “today is a federal holiday,” knowing that it absolutely is not. I do call before they close, and invariably I am told that a sub is working and that he is “picking up extra work,” meaning servicing more than just my route. I feel for you dragonmom. On Saturdays, we usually just get absolute cr*p and junk mail, with no first class mail. How is that possible unless they are not sorting everything on Saturday?

Our service has really been bad lately. The regular mailman usually gets here around 5 PM but today it was 8 PM. Last Saturday it was about 7:30 PM. And the Saturday before that, he didn’t even show up at all (I checked with the neighbors – they didn’t get anything, either, so it wasn’t just me). Complaining to the post office does no good. They just throw their hands up and say that they’re understaffed and overworked.

When our sub is on, it is a post card that is all. When she is on vacation it goes like that for a whole week. Between college stuff and the holidays, you know that mailbox should be full.

Wow. Our USPS guys come out rain or shine. FedEx, OTOH… delayed delivery of my package for 2 days due to “adverse weather” in Redmond. Huh? We live 15 min north. Have not noticed any hurricanes, tornadoes, or anything similarly adverse hitting the area.
