Mailing List Dilemma

So I joined around 52 mailing lists (filled out 52 whole information forms) for my top universities. Whatever college I apply to in the future is guaranteed to be in those about 52 top-choice universities. Getting the extra info from joining the mailing lists is for helping narrow down the list, so don’t say that 52 is too much (I have 3 more years to research college).

I am a freshman.

Here is the problem: on each form, I listed my graduation year as 2012 because my original plan was to graduate early from high school. Now that that has changed, my graduation date is 2013, and you can see what problems I have created.

The mailing lists cannot be redone, and even if I did, it would take hours. Now, all of my top-choice universities think that I am a sophomore. They may think that this was a ploy to receive application materials a year early, they make think I was so stupid that I couldn’t do addition, etc. What will happen come 2012? I will be cleared from the system and they wouldn’t even know that I am on their mailing list in 2013?

There are so many problems I could list, but I ask you to analyze the situation yourself and you will see how many issues I have created by deciding to go with the normal graduation schedule.

What do I do?

. .

It’s only a mailing list, adcoms don’t do the mailings, they use marketing companies to take care of them. You’re gonna get lots of mail to ignore for 2012, then sign up again for 2013.

Calm down, this isn’t a problem.

I got some letters from small LACs that said things like “we think it is great that you are researching colleges as a sophomore.” For places that highly emphasize demonstrated interest such as Emory and WashU it seems important that all of this info that they track is important.

They are not going to care.
And even if they did, the most they would do is see if your name is on their mailing list database, not what year you signed up.

Do not worry about this. Worry about grades and ECs, that’s what’s going to get you in, NOT some mailing list.

If you are worried about showing interest. You need to visit and/or have an interview, that’s what they are going to care about.
