MAJOR ACT Question with common app

Hi. When taking the ACT, I knew all the schools I wanted to go to superscore. So after getting a high score in one section of one test, I would bomb it on the next test because I knew no one would see it.

Common app has you submit your self reported superscore. And none of my schools require official ACT scores until after admittance.

Obviously in hindsight I realize this wasn’t a good idea. But I still got a 34 super score. But within that I have like a 14 on math lmao.

This shouldn’t matter because no one would see it because of the superscoring.

But I’m still worried. I’m currently a junior and want to go to Dartmouth. Do you think this will be fine? It’s not like I’m lying about my scores, I just did things strategically.

You don’t report your superscore on the common app. You report your highest composite score and the highest score for each section. Then, if the school superscores, they will calculate that. Common app input fields look like this:

Yes I know. My highest composite is a 31. But a 34 superscored. I’ll input all my highest sections. Is the fact that I didn’t try on some of the sections that didn’t count towards the superscore fine? No college would technically see it because all my schools superscore.

You answered your own question.

They won’t know when they make a decision.

What you did makes zero sense though imho as you did not get a 36.

Dartmouth, with a 34, won’t be great odds.

But good luck.

The average score is a 33.

They have a 5% acceptance rate.

So any are you can exceed by even more….

I don’t get purposely tanking.

No matter Dartmouth or a #200 school, please do better in life.

You don’t want to be that person that just does enough.
