I’m going to start college this year and I’m still undecided. My problem is that in high school, I didn’t join any clubs or take any courses to prepare me for a career, like medicine or automechanics. Now, is this going to affect how well I do in the future? Can I still major in medicine or automechanics (examples) in college? How will this affect me?

College is all about exploration. I know so many people who go into university with one major and then change it later (up to 5 times). Take this time to really find out what interests you and what you will be passionate about.

Not joining clubs or taking related courses in H.S. will not affect how well you will do in the future. All colleges have introductory courses for every discipline, so you should not be worried that you wont be able to do well in whatever field you choose to go into. Youre a freshman, so you still have sooo much time. I changed my major 2 times before I decided what I wanted to do.

Join clubs and take the appropriate courses in college.

you guys have a point, but then if someone goes to college and decides to switch his major for 5 times like you said wouldn’t that kind of a waste of time and money?

He was lucky enough to have a lot of his general curriculum requirements completed or waived by APs. It wasn’t as if he took a semester of courses related to one major and switched. For one switch, my friend went through the paper work to change, but didn’t actually take any courses related to that major when he went for the next switch. He has only a few “wasted” credits. In fact, he could graduate early if he wanted to.
