Major and College matching

I’m currently stuck between three majors(each different, but centered around math & science)
Actuary, Chemical Engineering, or pre-med(which would be biochemistry*)

Is it better to major in mathematics or to have a specialize degree in Actuarial science?
*what would be a good college major if I decide I want to apply to med school?

I live in Illinois(suburb next to Chicago), but don’t mind moving away to college.

Can someone list colleges with strong programs in either one of the three majors.
If possible list the difficulty level of getting into the college, but assume all colleges are fair game.

pay for and download a copy of Ruggs Recommendations. It lists majors and minors by college. WE found it extraordinarily useful when DS was looking for the best colleges with 2 areas he was interested in perusing.

[Rugg’s Recommendations on the Colleges 29th Edition](http://www.ruggsrecommendations.com/rureonco28ed.html)

Rugg’s new 29th edition lists 15,000 quality departments at over 1,125 quality colleges.

THE BOOK includes Recommended Undergraduate Programs in the United States in the Fields of: Agriculture, American Studies, Anthropology, Architecture, Art (Studio), Art History, Astronomy, Biochemistry/Molecular Biology, Biology, Botany, Business Administration, Chemistry, Classics, Computer Science, Dance/Drama/Theater, Economics, Education, Engineering, English, Foreign Languages, Forestry, Geography, Geology, History, Home Economics, Journalism/Communication, Mathematics, Music, Nursing, Pharmacy, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Pre-Law, Pre-Med/Pre-Dental, Psychology, Religious Studies, Sociology, and Zoology.

Stanford, MIT, Carnegie Mellon, UC Berkeley, CalTech, UT Austin, Wisconsin, Michigan and UCLA not in any particular order. If you’re from Illinois, then definitely check out UIUC.

UIUC, is a great school, but is kind of common of around here
it still has a lot of strong programs and I will be using it as my safety school

A math major with selected electives (such as those fulfilling the VEE requirements) should be fine for actuarial work:
[College study | Be an Actuary](http://www.beanactuary.com/study/)
[VEE Requirements | Be an Actuary](http://www.beanactuary.com/study/?fa=vee-requirements)

Pre-med can be done alongside any major, including math and chemical engineering.

Why does being “common” matter?

@annasdad it doesn’t matter at all since it’s a great school, but in my high school probably more than half of my physics AP class will end up there.

thanks for answering some questions.
So it is between a math major(maybe stats) or a chemistry major(aimed at either being an engineer or later going into med school)

I would also take a look at schools such as Harvey Mudd, Cooper Union, Franklin Olin, and Rose-Hulman. Rose will be a bit easier than some of the other schools listed above at 65% accept rate.
