Major (at least I think so) mistake on Common App, what do I do?

I applied ED1 to Northeastern University and I discovered an error on my common app in which I stated I have children even though I didn’t. I guess stress got to me and I didn’t read the prompt properly, I though it was in reference to my parents for some reason. I discovered the mistake and sent them an email, & days later, I was accepted into Northeastern, but they did not respond to my email.

I sent 2 more follow-ups, one after one week and one after two weeks with no response. I don’t know if they are aware of the mistake and if they read my email or not. I am also concerned of what this might mean to my admission as I withdrew from other universities I applied to.

Congrats on the acceptance. You sent them an email correcting the error so move on. As a precaution, I would save your email just in case it comes up (highly doubt it will).

Time to buy a Northeastern hoodie and celebrate your success.

That’s likely a demographic question and no impact on admission.

Congrats to you.

Thanks!

I agree with the above posters. If you completed FAFSA and you also checked you have a child on that form, you will have to go in and make that correction.

And for Northeastern, I believe the CSS Profile as well.

If you indicated you have children on your financial aid application forms, this could affect the amount of need based aid you are offered.

If you made this error on your financial aid application forms, you probably need to contact financial aid to see if this matters.

Just to clarify, I believe OP was worried about admission status.

Northeastern is a need aware school - so if anything, having a kid would cost the school more, so I don’t see this as an admissions issue.

But just looking from that angle as it was asked.
