I was accepted to UIUC as a transfer student in March, however I recently (late march) submitted a major change form to change from Atmospheric Science to Economics within LAS. How long does it usually take to hear back from admissions on major change requests? I would like to make a final decision soon…
What exactly did you submit and did you check with your admisisons counselor first to determine whether you should or could submit a major change request? The reason i ask is that there are two forms:
There is a change of major form in LAS college for which you can request a change, but it is supposed to be used only by those who are already attending UIUC and decisons are provided in summer. If you submitted that form to the admissions office, then you likely have accomplished little since you are not a current student at UIUC and the form has to be submitted to the LAS Student Affairs Office, not the admissions office. If that is rhe form you submitted to admissions, you should likely contact admissions and clarify your status and probably withdraw the request.
Then there is a program change request form that a freshman or transfer applicant can submit either before or shortly after being admitted which requests a change in your application for admisison to a different major. If you submitted that form then I assume you are aware from its instructions that doing so is tantamount to academic suicide because you are giving up the admission you already have and if the economics department does not accept you, you will be done and will not attend UIUC. Moreover, the economics department will be making the decison on you after it has already made all or almost all other transfer admission decisons and thus you have a chance of being denied admisison just because they believe they have already made offers to enough transfer applicants. In any event, there is no designated time limit for deciding when you program request chanfe is decided, I suspect it will be before May, but you might want to call to check on your status.
