Major closed in UC application?

I am transfer as Junior standing since I’ll have more than 60 units before next Fall.
So I am doing my UC application, when I select my major for UCSD Jacobs school. Mechanical Engineering is closed. It says on the right side that some majors are only offer to Junior and Freshmen…

Does anyone have any idea why is this happening?

Thanks!

The program is impacted, the state is in a budget crisis, and the demand of fresh students exceeds the supply of seats, classrooms, and funding to pay for more professors. Have you been asleep for the past two years?

I KNOW my major is impacted but not able to choose it in application is too much. And I already choose Mechanical Engineering as my major for TAG application.
If they don’t have Mechanical Engineering for TAG application, it would makes sense for this UC application to not included it. But they have Mechanical Engineering in TAG, but not this one.

jeezzz kmazza no need to be a total beezy about it. you should prolly contact the school for this one, ktran13 ;/

That is because they are already aware that you have pre chosen an impacted major i.e Mech. Engineering through TAG. What they are requesting from you is an alternative major choice. If you do not state you will be deemed an ‘Undeclared Major’ student. Just declare a non impacted Engineering major as your alternative so gives them some indication you are serious about attending UCSD and willing to be patient for a seat to open up for you in ME.

@kmazza TAG and UC application are completely different applications. People do not have to do TAG application. So it would not make sense for people who didn’t do TAG to not declare their major if their major is impacted because UC already “know” what are their major are from the TAG application.

Yes I agree but you did do TAG so it makes no sense why you are arguing an invalid point for the sake of argument. Instead of being illogical and harping on me for trying to assist why not just visit UCSD’s website then.

For this year, the following majors are closed:
Electrical Engineering & Society
Mechanical Engineering
NanoEngineering

[Check open/closed majors](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/how-to-apply/check-majors/san-diego/index.html)

What am I going to do now?

I know how you feel! I was planning to apply mech eng at UCSD as well.
I think I’m going to apply UCD instead…

But since I live in San Diego, I really don’t want to go elsewhere for college lol

When they make up the TAG applications they probably just list all of the majors that the school normally offers. Also, when you applied for TAG, mechanical engineering might have still been open. However, when the school actually has to make up the admission applications, before they can actually offer a program they have to be sure that they have the resources to accommodate additional students and due to the problems that kmazza listed they probably determined, on fairly short notice, that at this time they can not accept transfer students into their mechanical engineering program.
