Basically, I got into Carnegie Mellon and Johns Hopkins engineering, but if I go to one of those and don’t get straight A’s as a freshman my parents are going to stop paying for my education. This means I have to go to WPI.

If I get straight As at WPI as a freshman and put up a good candidacy, 1) how possible will successfully transferring to one of those two schools be, and 2) will it be any easier since I’ve already been admitted once?

I would take my chances at JHU or CM and transfer to WPI if you have to. Not that WPI isn’t a good school but it sounds like you want to go to one of the others. So, my recommendation would be to do the opposite of what you said:
- Go to JHU or CM
- Transfer out if you have to. To WPI.

Who knows if you get solid grades, deans list and such maybe your parents will lighten up to the idea of you staying at the university you want. But, needless to say, do what you financially need to do. It may be harder to transfer in. It depends on the year. But it may be easier as well. The schools I didn’t choose to attend told me to call them if I ever changed my mind. One, Dayton, even told me that I could have my scholarship money back if I changed my mind. You just never know.
