Major/Elective Distinction..current students please help!

Does the student have the ability to choose whether he/she wants a class to count toward his/her major or as an elective?

For example, I will be pursuing IDS honours which requires students to take 0-9 credits of foreign language. I plan on taking 24 credits of foreign language. Would I be able to choose any 9 of those credits to count toward the major, or would the only the first 9 completed credits go toward the major?

My reason for this question is that the honours diploma require a 3.30 and a cumulative 3.00. If the answer to my question is yes, do honours students struggling with the gpa requirements take classes only relevant to the major?

Also, given the breadth of my intended major, i will be taking classes in many disciplines. Can one class count go toward this major AND a minor?

Additional question to Arts students…how many of your freshman yr. credits are going towards your major?

thank you!

bump…
