Major Essay Typo: Email Regional AdCom?

Not so much of a typo as a big problem with me not fact-checking 100%.

So I lobbied for a bill this summer and I wrote about it in an essay stating that the bill was now passed through Congress. (I was under the impression of this because the charity I’m working with is having a campaign for Obama’s support. I turned in the app the day of the deadline so I was quickly piecing together this essay.)
Anyways it turns out the bill has only passed through the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Should I email and apologize for this and give them the correct updated info?
Do you think they’ll assume I’m a liar and hold this against me?

Advice??

Absolutely you should contact them. Your EC was very researchable and it definitely needs to be clarified so they don’t reject you simply for dishonesty. And regardless of how far the bill has gone it still looks very impressive.

Thanks for the advice.
I contacted my regional adcom. (Thank goodness my interviewer gave me her email!)
I applied EA so hopefully my application isn’t already in the trash bin.
