Major for lighting industry?

Hi im a senior and im interested in one day marketing high end energy saving commercial, residential, and entertainment lighting. My goal is to get an engineering BS and then an mba program. I have my reasons and resources for this field im just wondering what field of engineering most relates to this. Thanks!!

The obvious choice is Electrical Engineering. Other options are Architectural Engineering, Architecture, or Optical Science & Engineering.

Some schools with programs and/or research centers include RPI, Rose-Hulman, U, New Mexico, UC-Davis. Also check Penn State, Purdue, Arizona.

Electrical engineering all the way - architectural programs will focus more on the use of lighting systems than on their creation, and the few optical science/engineering programs out there will focus almost entirely on the actual optical element (only a part of the overall lighting system). Based on what you have said, it would seem that you have the right idea. The engineering degree will give you the technical background you need, and if you desire then to move on to the marketing and business side then the MBA will provide the right education to do so.

zapfino has provided some excellent links - I would suggest sorting through them for good EE programs associated with research centers that are focused on lighting.

Check out the jobs for the companies that are doing what you are interested in and see what they are looking for. For example, CREE produces LED lighting. I know they like materials, electrical, chemical, and mechanical engineers.
