Major: If I wanted to make a cellphone...

What major or majors would one look into if one wanted to know how to create a cell phone?

What part of a cell phone? The four that would be relevant would be electrical/computer engineering, computer science, materials science or mechanical engineering.

lol you’re right. That is a lot.

Program and interface: computer.
The creation of the battery and electrical components and the plastics involved with the casing and potential water/heat/pressure resistant parts: materials.
Interaction of aforementioned components: electrical/mechanical

If that’s what you really want to do, you could pick any of the majors, but to get to something so specific you’d have to wait until grad school unless Verizon/Sprint etc. offer you a job after your bachelors.

OMG. I can’t stand these ■■■■■■■■ questions.

“Which major is best for making an xbox???”

To me it would be electrical engineering, in a general sense.

JamesMadison, I don’t mean to ■■■■■ or anything, but shut up.

Anyway, the above posters are correct.

However, if you are talking about designing phones and the look of it and stuff, then Industrial Design is a pretty good choice.

Physics also wouldn’t be a made major.

Of course for every industrial designer there are another 10 ME’s and EE’s telling him how you can’t fit all the components into that package.

(Note: I’ve never been involved with the design of a cell phone, so I’m talking out of my ass)

Mostly EEs to work on the circuitry and antennas. CompE’s and CS majors to write the codes for the microprocessors in the phone. EE’s and material science guys to process the circuits.

Maybe other industrial designers and mechanical engineers to make the phone look purdy and to make sure it doesn’t fall apart?

Probably the most numerous of the engineers are the guys who write the codes (CS, CompE) followed by the guys who design the circuits (EE).

LOL it’s a question that’s going to get a long answer…but, by a long shot, it’s not a ■■■■■■■■ question…

Though it will likely get some ■■■■■■■■ answers.

Human interface design is a huge facet of modern smartphone development. Bad interfaces fail in the market. (See Symbian.)

It’s a legit question for someone who isn’t familiar with the core subjects of engineering fields. I’d say go for Computer Engineering. You’ll learn embedded systems. You’ll also learn that in Electrical Engineering, but won’t get as much programming out of EE. Whichever one is good in my opinion.

I would assume EEs, CS, or CompEs would be the ones to make the thing work.
