<p>Are there any outside merit scholarships left that do not account for the financial need of the family. For example, to be eligible for the Gates scholarship, you need to be eligible for the pell grant. My parents make 200k but paying for college will be tough due to my brother attending college one year after me. Can you guys direct me to some scholarships that will fit me. I am planning on being an engineering major btw.</p>

Your best bet is to find colleges that award merit aid. There aren’t a lot of organizations trying to help rich kids get to college.
You won’t find much that will give you more than a couple thousand, but those can seriously help. Would rather spend a few hours on an application that could give you $2000 or spending those hours working at a minimum wage job and for sure get $20?

Yes, I recommend registering for multiple sites. Also, ask administration at your school for local opportunities (my school has a Dean of Post-secondary Education that handles this). For example, this dean told me about a state-wide scholarship for $5k per year that few people know about.
