Major obstacles in college?!?

What are the top 5 obstacles to overcome in college? Also, how do you get more motivation to keep on pushing (studying). Thats my major issue, pushing myself. What is the most rigorous part about college to you?

Well, the obstacles are going to depend on the person and what kind of background (academic, cultural, etc) they come from. Without knowing your situation, I’ll just offer some common ones:

Being away from home*
Having roommates*
Making new friends*
Choosing a major*
Having total control over what you do (classes, when you study, what you eat, etc)
Balancing studying with a social life

*I marked these ones because I tend to see questions about these on the forum quite frequently

As far as finding motivation to push yourself, you have to identify a goal so that you know what you’re working toward. It helps to actually WANT that thing, too. Why are you getting a degree? Do you think it’s going to guarantee a job? Are you in it for the social aspect? Pressure from parents? Whatever it is, you need to make sure you have a reason that’s YOURS, and you need to remind yourself whenever things get tough (and they will) that THAT’S why you’re there. If you can’t stay motivated, you probably shouldn’t go to college. Getting poor grades and not getting anything out of it is just pissing away a lot of money.
