<p>just a general question… when applying for a job, would it be more important to major in something you want to go into or would a better school get your foot in the door?</p>
<p>my problem is, would it be better for me to go to a smaller school with an okay rep and major in fashion (what i actually want to do), or go to a school with a rep like nyu and major in communications or maybe even “create my own major”? they say location sometimes is key… and nyu is in the fashion capital of the world. </p>
<p>also, i hear its all about who you know and networking. if i get awesome internships in fashion even without majoring in it, that would be a major plus.</p>

<p>fashion, it depends on what you’re interested in doing in the fashion industry. Fashion, retailing, garment wholesaling is a huge and diverse industry. It employs people with a wide range of skills and backgrounds.</p>
<p>If you want to design, go to design school. If, on the other hand, you want to be involved in a less clearly defined area – like buying, merchandising, sourcing, planning, marketing – then an undergraduate degree from an academically solid college/university in just about any discipline will serve you just as well (or maybe better) than a degree from a fashion school.</p>
<p>Communications is quite different from fashion.</p>
<p>i don’t want to design, i want to do maybe product development…trend forecasting that kind of stuff.</p>
