Major prep for october sat

I’m new to CC so if you could please help me out i’d really be grateful for it.I took the June sat and got my scores back a few days ago. For the first time taking it I scored a 510 on the writing. I’d rather not give cr and math let’s just say I have A LOT of work to do. I heard so much talk about grubers, Dr.Chung and barrons but what would be the BEST prep book for the sat math section? I want to review the major concepts this summer to the best of my ability. I already have the bb for practice tests and direct hits for vocab. For Cr and writing, I have also heard alot of talk about rocketreview but It is tooooo expensive for me at the time. Any other prep books in your opinion that are good for covering concepts in all three sections? My goal is to score a 2000 and above in the fall and I will dedicate my summer to achieving that goal. Thanks in advance:).

Please???

Is it so hard to do a search. This question has been asked plenty of times… do a little bit of searching see what you find.

Do your work first, when you find some prep books that you think are worth asking then post a list and we’ll let you know. People get pretty tired of people asking the same question.

There is no formula for a 2400.

If you’re really serious about getting a 2000+ from a ~1400 you’ll have to go ALL out

complete grubers math sat workbook

memorize(or at least attempt to memorize) barron’s 3500 word list

memorize vocab in direct hits vocab sat (volumes 1 and 2)

complete 10 practice tests in the Blue book

read Xiggi’s and silverturtle’s guides on the forums

buy princeton 2011 sat review book and complete the 11 tests inside

go online and work out every single sat problem you can get your hands on

read rocket review for CR

if you have time, read sophisticated articles such as the New York Times, they will help you with reading comprehension

I agree with everything jd989898 said.

EXCEPT. I would not advise using princeton review at all, the practice tests they have are completely inaccurate. Only use practice tests from the official collegeboard blue book + their sites online test.

I just got my Gruber’s Complete Math Workbook + Barron’s 2400 today. It looks like it has alot of good tips/problem. I got a 1600 my first time , 1650 second time (not much better, i know).

I advise that for writing you use this

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/164124-16-most-common-errors-identifying-sentence-errors-writing.html</a></p>

For CR, read this, then do alot of reading + practice from the BB tests

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/750399-how-attack-sat-critical-reading-section-effectively.html</a></p>

For Math, Use Grubers!

Should I get barrons 2400?

I suggest so, it’s better than Princeton Review as i’ve heard, and so far it has very helpful strategies.

Grubber’s is amazing! I’m also studying for the October SAT and hoping to jump 150-200 points. I just looked at my score report and it sucks to know that I was only a few questions from perfect… darn the Math and Writing curve for being so difficult!!

Math - I never did a practice section, winged it and got a 720 first time and 800 second time.

Writing - 3 years of somewhat advanced Latin helped a lot with the grammar, but my essay wasn’t any good… I got an 8 both times. I got 2 wrong and an 8 essay both times for a 730, and 710 respectively.

Critical reading - this is only section I really practiced for. My soph/junior PSATs were in the crapper (40ish, 50ish respectively)… I did the first 8 practice tests in BB (was too lazy to do all 10), just the reading sections and by the end I was getting like 730ish. I only ended up getting a 630 the first time I took it so I was p*ssed off. Before my second attempt, I did the online course tests (3 of them) + DH vocab + other vocab stuff, and got like 780 on the practice tests. Ended up with 700CR on my second attempt, so lower than expected, but still a big improvement from where I started.

Summary:

PSAT Junior:
CR-57
W-63
M-80

SAT Junior (March):
CR-630 (after 8 BB tests and some vocab)
W-730
M-720

SAT Junior (June):
CR-700 (after online course by collegeboard)
W-710
M-800
