Major selection affecting admission?

Does the major you choose affect your admission decision for freshman applicants? I applied under a new major, Human Biology and Society, and was just reading that only 40 students are going to be enrolled?! My backup major was business economics, which is another highly competitive major (I know, I wasn’t thinking of choosing an easier major to get into at the time). Will this affect admission if I was on the bubble?

Thanks!

Also what about bio major.

doesnt matter dudes, everyone’s considered the same as long as the major is under the college of letters and science.

Jinobi is right. The reason only 40 people are in that Human Biology major is because it’s new and not that many people want it, not because it’s any more competitive than the other life science majors. When you are admitted you are only labelled as a “pre-____” major because you aren’t officially in that major until you finish prereqs. It is extremely easy to change pre-majors once you’re here as long as it’s within the same College, all you do is see a counselor and it takes literally two clicks for them to do it.

No, your major absolutely will not affect your chances for admission, at least not within the College of Letters and Science.

But my understanding is that once you are admitted to UCLA, there is no guarantee that you will be admitted into the Human Biology and Society major. The major really is capped at 40 people, probably because it is so new and is kind of in a “trial phase” of sorts.
