I’d like to pursue MMSS/Kellogg cert for the job prospects mainly, but I’d like to major in something like Philosophy for personal edification. Would this work?

No. The number of courses you need to take to satisfy the MMSS/Kellogg cert. are way to numerous to typically satisfy a completely unrelated major. I would say most MMSS people are econ/math majors where the coursework is overlapping.

I think normally MMSS students major in math or economics.

You can’t do MMSS but you might be able to squeeze in the Kellogg certificate. I know engineers [even non-IE majors] can/do take the certificate so I see no reason why a Philosophy major can’t do it.

You can do MMSS with philosophy
You can do Kellogg cert with philosophy.

Whether you can do MMSS, Kellogg cert, and philosophy totally depends on your talent level and will. Research what the requirements are and ask yourself if you can handle the workload.

NU is pretty flexible. The two Rhodes Scholars two years ago were both triple-majors. They are not typical but this fact shows you the limiting factor is your ability, not NU’s policy.

It’s all about how bad you want it. My major/minor total was 5 ( I don’t think this is ok anymore because of the rule of 3). But I just did what I wanted and the scheduling worked out. If you’re on top of your schedule then it should all work out. I know mmss kids who did social policy of psychology. You don’t have to do math or econ
