Major selection

Hey guys,
I want to ask about major selection between the Econ BA and BS in UW.
As I heard from people, majoring in Econ BS will have more chance to be selected by firm as well as higher salary.
However, I had not known about that before so since the freshmen year, I was preparing for Econ BA ( some business classes…) and I did not take math at all ( except MATH111 and MATH112). So if I want to change to BS, I would have a tight schedule in order to graduate by Spring/Summer 2013 ( I’m junior right now) since I just take Math120 this Winter quarter.
However, at the same time, I could graduate with Double major in Econ BA + International Studies + minor in Political Science which is more than just only majoring Econ BS (maybe minor in Math??)

Can anyone tell me which is a better choice?
A/ Econ BA + International Studies + Minor in Political Science?
B/ Econ BS + (maybe) Minor in Math?

I aim to get an internship/job related to business after graduation and not very sure about graduate schools.

thanks,

I guess it depends on what kind of job you would like to do in the future. If it’s something related more to theoretical part, something that involves more theoretical research, public policies and other related stuff - then BA is fine. If you want to work with numbers, statistics, do forecasts and analysis of previous data - BS is your choose. I would say that since there are less people who are comfortable with Math, their salaries will be higher.

You might want to repost this in the “Arts and Sciences majors” section of CC (or whatever’s most related)…your question has less to do with UW and I don’t know if there is the experience here that you want.

Edit: seatac’s advice does appear to be good; it’s just that you’ll get more opinions elsewhere

I prefer Econ BS more than Econ BA. However, if I take Econ BA I can do double major, which might help me to get more chance to find a job ( not sure???) and also if I do BA my schedule will not be as tight as I doing BS ( I need lots 4 more quarter to finish the Math in order to transfer to BS, not included if I not get in and international students tuition fee is huge 10k/quarter…).
I dream to work in business field, something related to finance… So is BA still work? is there any major that I can take with Econ BA to improved my chance?

I can’t say much about Econ, but one thing you can do to increase your chance of finding a job (I’m assuming you mean after graduating full time) is to find summer internships. This could be at your home country or in the US. If you talk to other econ majors here, they can point you to different places that you can apply for internships. The industry experience will make you even more marketable for a full time job in the future. :)
