Hi i am currently taking classes at a CC and am going to TAG either ucsd or uci for fall 2014. My current dillema is as follow: I believe i want to go into the medical field and have heard there are various ways to get there.

Currently i do not have biology, chemistry,or physics taken at my cc; however i have decent knowledge from my high school days. Since i am in this situation i figured maybe i could attempt to TAG and apply as a linguistics major, anthropology, or something like sociology/psych. I have heard that ling and anthropology are a far less “competitive” field for getting accepted and that i could take classes on the side like( bio, chem, physics) while im going to my major classes also.

basically my question is: would getting a BA in linguistics or anthropology allow me to go to medical school? or would i be better off picking a major that i still need lower division courses in and simply taking more time.

For med school, it doesn’t matter what your major is so long as you complete premed requirements. That’s the reason why many premeds major in biology-related subjects; they get their premed requirements out of the way just by being in that major.

So, do whatever you’re comfortable doing. As a ling major (doubling in computer science), ling requirements don’t tend to be all that intensive. You should be able to fit in all your requirements for premed without too many issues.

Would it be unrealistic to attempt to fit those in within the last two years or 2 1/2 years worth of time at the University? im very interested in both bio and engineering. A perk i see for engineering though is you have the option to be more “explorative” through applying to various companies around the world of getting stationed in a certain area through a company.

If you want to get into med school I would skip anthropology and linguistics. I think that the best degree options for med school are pre med, chemistry, and biology. Also, you mentioned that you were very interested in biomedical engineering. This would also be a great transfer major to med school.
