At my school, I know some of my friends at my college who do not like the college they go to. Some don’t like the way how the school is run. This gives me the impression that the majority of college students at my school do not like the school for one way or another.

I try not to care what other students think of about this school. I think my school is good and I try to make the best of it through all of this negativity (at least from my friends).

So my question is do you go to a school where the majority of the student body do not like the school for some reason? Are you influenced by the negative opinions of the student body or do you try to make the best of it?

Just because some of your friends do not like your school doesn’t mean that the majority of students at your school doesn’t like it. Your friends could very well be in the minority. There’s nothing to tell you otherwise.

Also, I think everyone has some things about their school that they don’t like, and often, the only thing that you hear from students is what they don’t like. It’s more cathartic to complain about the things that you don’t like about your school than to list the things that you do like.

Just think about what they’re saying and how valid those comments really are. Hating one thing about a school doesn’t mean the whole place sucks. I had a friend that didn’t like her school because the administration was really disorganize. That’s completely understandable and can be really frustrating, but the school also had great professors and provided great opportunities. I didn’t like my school’s transportation system but it was better than others, and in the grand scheme of things, it didn’t really matter that much. Also, keep in mind that someone’s bad opinion of the school or a department may be because of one bad experience that may or may not be representative of everyone there. I had a horrible experience with my academic advising office, but I know other students who had fantastic experiences–it just depends on what adviser you go to. It’s just like how having one bad professor doesn’t mean that the entire school sucks.

If you like your school, then it doesn’t matter what they think about it. Work hard, take advantage of every opportunity, and if their negativity is really dragging you down, just change the subject and talk about something else. If ALL you guys talk about is how bad your school is, maybe it’s time you find some new friends.

I mean I like this school, but as with some of the students there are some parts that I don’t like about it, including that it is a commuter school with less than 10% of resident students (me being a resident student).

But other than that, I think this school is not bad.
