I am looking to work in the fields of Public Health or Social Welfare in the future. I am currently a freshman applicant having trouble picking my major for the application process. Although UCLA have a Public Health minor, I wanted to know which other majors can I apply to that would be related to those two fields I had mentioned above.

For the College of Letters and Science they don’t take your major into account when making admission decisions. So you can pick anything for now and figure out the best fit for you later.

It is straightforward to change majors once you are a student. Some majors are competitive to gain entrance into, but there is no advantage to declaring them when applying since listing them just means they put you into pre-Econ or pre-whatever and you still have to qualify for admission into the full major just like any other UCLA student that wants to change into that major.

Public Health and Social Welfare are 2 really, really broad fields.

If you want to keep your options open for health in general, you should major in a life science like Biology or some variation of it.

If you want to go into social work and become a social worker, any degree is fine.
