Make money in college?

I received my financial aid package and I'm going to need four thousand dollars of my own money to reach the U of M estimated $22k for freshman year. This is after what my parents plan to contribute. I figure that if I'm lucky, I can make $1k during the summer. I don't know how pay goes during college, though. I'm planning on doing a UROP. Is it possible for me to make enough money to pay for the first year, or will I have to take out a loan?

You can make much more then $1,000 dollars a summer. 3-4,000 is perfectly realistic if you work a good amount.

Yeah, you should be able to make at least $2,500. I worked over the summer in July and August and I would guess I made about $2000....but first semester of school this year I probably pulled in double what I made in the summer.

I made $1000 working for LESS than minimum wage. Also, I live in Arizona, where minimum wage was formerly the FEDERAL minimum wage, which was less than $5 an hour.

I wouldn't worry.
