Is adding humor to your essay a good thing to do, and when is it too much? Also, how much is too much in terms of adding a good vocabulary to the essay?
I can’t speak for other people, but I just tried to keep my essays sounding natural. I didn’t throw in any big words that I wouldn’t normally use, and while some of my essays had some humor I only put it in if it didn’t feel forced or if it was appropriate for the topic.
I think it really depends on what kind of person you are and what your essays are about. One of my essays was a letter to a future roommate, so I made it a little humorous when talking about my interests and what I expected. Another one of my essays talked about how I was ready to leave behind my small town to do bigger things and that one didn’t have any humor because it was something I felt very seriously about.
