Makeup again! Foundation for older skin?

Another vote for Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream! I have experimented with a lot of B creams and tinted moisturizers, but for me, the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue strikes the right balance between coverage and heaviness.

I sound like a commercial, but…it’s my current favorite.

I loved the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue – until it made me break out. Get samples first or buy from a store with a good return policy if you have sensitive skin.

Another fan of the Bare Minerals and I also have an undereye product from them that I like as well. I don’t like the Smashbox BB creme but I do really like the clear gel primer. Another great primer is from Nars.

When I was a model they used dermablend on tattoos or girls (and guys) who had really dark undereye circles. They used it on me once when I had a bruise from falling off a horse. That stuff is pretty amazing. I wouldn’t wear it all over your face, but it really covers areas where the pigment is different from your regular skin tone.

I got a new primer/sunscreen product from Bare Minerals a couple of weeks ago that is great and is SPF 50.

I found Maybelline FIT concealer recently. Inexpensive, and works for me under eye and age spots. Tiny bit goes a long way.

I like the Laura Mercier 3 in 1 concealer. You use just a teeny bit. It’s the best I have found that is the least cakey. I’ve tried Trish McAvoy and Bobbi Brown, but the BB gal thought the LM looked the best.

Nottelling…same here. Few wrinkles, but that dark line extending from the inner eye and the darn sagging hoods. I don’t notice much unless I smile, and in pictures I look tired. I keep wanting to make that appt. With the surgeon, but scared. I’m a broken record.

I use Tarte or Laura Geller’s concealer. Both are excellent, but I have to really blend it well! That’s why on looking for foundation and not tinted moisturizer.

Some insurance covers botox for sagging eyelids. Some insurance will also cover therapeutic blepharoplasty (eyelid lift). If it’s really bugging you and your eyelids are drooping into your eyes, you might want to check out either of those options with your board certified plastic surgeon to see if it qualifies for coverage.

As someone with deep-set eyes, I can see going the botox route at some point if my lids get super droopy, but I don’t know if I’d ever go the scalpel route. With thermage, botox, and fillers, I think they can do a lot nowadays to keep stuff in place. I hope to use it someday once we get the kids through college and I have some disposable income.

@MotherOfDragons , I’ve used dermablend too, but I had trouble blending it!

I use a Clinique tinted moisturizer that has SPF in it as well. Not heavy but sort of evens out my complexion.

I also use Clinique blush.

I took college_query’s recommendation from one of these recent threads and started using Guerlain Lingerie De Peau foundation and I love it. It’s medium coverage, but at the same time looks completely natural. It gives my skin a lovely glow. I also have very dark undereye circles (tomorrow I’ll start drinking more water!). I have many concealers, but my current favorite is Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer. The Guerlain foundation works well with this.

For me, hands down, Touch Eclat Le Teint by Yves Saint Laurent. It is pricy but a little goes a long way so it lasts. It has been the only thing that sits nicely on my skin and has a reflective quality so it makes my skin look great. I have tried dozens.

@artrell - your face looks awesome in your avatar. Is that a photo of your kitty? So cool.

Maybe I need to wear makeup daily… 'cause I look exactly like the tortie in my avatar, wrinkles and uneven complexion.

Yes, that is my rescue kitty! And that is exactly why I wear make up, it evens my skin tone out and helps hide a few wrinkles, at least that is what I tell myself.

I have used Mary Kay Day Radiance for decades. Just enough to evenly cover, then a very light application of Max Factor Air Spun powder applied with a brush to set it, and a bit of tube blush on my cheekbones. My face just has uneven coloring otherwise.

I’ve used Touch Eclat, also. It’s pretty good, but not enough coverage. I found. It’s really more of a highlighter than concealer, that’s why it doesn’t settle too much in wrinkles. The lines extending from my inner eye were still too dark, buy it’s definitely worth a try on someone else’s skin tone. It’s a nice consistency. The one I’m curious about and is really expensive is Cle de Peau Beaute. It runs around $70 and is what all the professional makeup artists swear by.

I agree about Touche Eclat. It’s beautiful, but it doesn’t have enough coverage for my raccoon eyes. I do use it as a highlighter. I do have the Cle de Peau one and while it is one of the best out there I’m still looking for my “holy grail” concealer. There may be other concealers that cover as well for a much lower price. Folks swear by the Maybelline Age Rewind Dark Circles Eraser. I’ve bought them at all price points. . I don’t know if lifestyle factors are to blame or if it’s just genetics.

Dealing with dark under eye circles is a separate matter than which foundation you find is best for your skin. The aim is not to cover the under eye area with the foundation. You need to use a corrector that brightens and counteracts the darkness/blueness and then a concealer that’s a slightly lighter shade than your foundation. The concealer should cover a large inverted triangle shape that comes down to your cheeks. These are some good correctors/brighteners to use first: http://www.sephora.com/colored-clay-cc-undereye-corrector-P387175 or https://www.makeupalley.com/product/showreview.asp/ItemId=142230/Prep-±Prime-Highlighter-Pen-(Radiant-Rose)/MAC/Highlighters. There a number of good concealers, but I like http://www.bareescentuals.com/SPF-20-Correcting-Concealer/USMasterCorrectingConcealer,en_US,pd.html and this one http://www.sephora.com/radiant-creamy-concealer-P377873.

For what it’s worth, I also love the Bare Escentuals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream that I apply with a foundation brush. http://www.bareescentuals.com/Complexion-Rescue/USmastercomplexionrescue,en_US,pd.html

You might want to go to a Bare Minerals store and have them apply the corrector/concealer/foundation for you to try.

I use the Touche Eclat to even my skin tone. It is not heavy which is what I like about it. I previously used a tinted moisturizer after I got tired of the many foundations that sat heavy on my skin and just wound up aging me more. The tinted moisturizers just didn’t provide enough coverage. Touche Eclat was just right. For dark circles, I use Laura Mercier concealer, it covers and blends nicely an a little goes a long way, it was a favorite with the Sephora staff.
