Makeup again! Foundation for older skin?

No fragrance does not mean it will have no smell. Fragrance is often used to mask the smell that the products acquire naturally. As the atmospheric oxygen eats away at the antioxidants in the product, stinky compounds will eventually form (like the rancid smelling compounds when nuts go bad). If you want your fragrance-free product to stay smell-free, keep it refrigerated and in the dark. Alternatively, buy the smallest size possible, so it can be used before it goes stinky.

I don’t smell anything with my Bare Minerals makeup.

^^ Me either - I can’t smell anything from my Complexion Rescue foundation, even when I try!

Anyone using the Artis brushes? They’ll cost you an arm and a leg but apparently they’re great? I can only convince my parents to spend so much on make up. $80 on a brush is probably gonna be a no.

LOL. An $80 brush would be a definite no here.

I am an east coast girl that doesn’t really like to wear a lot of makeup.
I used Clinique cosmetics for years and use their Superbalanced foundation.
I’m completely clueless with all the options available so I stick to the same thing I have always used but my foundation lasts a long time because I only wear it a few times a month. I am always concerned that even if I cleanse my face I don’t want any makeup clogging my pores. I have lipsticks too that barely get used because I can’t stand the feeling of anything on my lips. I probably should go for a makeover but wouldn’t know where to start and I don’t want layers of stuff on my skin. I want my skin to breathe. I buy my makeup from Lord and Taylor when they have a $20 off a $40 purchase coupon that includes cosmetics.

The last two months I have used a Vitamin C line that is quite affordable so that is my cleanser, serum, eye cream, and spf moisturizer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dl2p0JBBBm0

I am going to conduct a one person, fully controlled, blinded experiment comparing the “undies for my face” makeup and my Chanel makeup - by putting them side by side on the two sides of my face. Mr. will make sure I do not know what is what. I have not touched either in a long time, so I do not expect that I would easily recognize which one is which. Stay tuned!

Midwest mom over 60 mom who NEVER used foundation- looks far too artificial-and used to use powder for oily skin. Now none. It is not only west coasters who refuse to paint their faces to look bad.

I suspect most of us vain floozies who “paint our faces” don’t look “bad.” Bless your heart!

Wis75, maybe no one ever taught you the difference between a touch of makeup artfully applied, and Tammy Fate Bakker look-alikes? Because without fail, every time makeup or personal beautification topics come up, you go straight to Tammy Faye Bakker. And I say this as someone who typically wears nothing but eye pencil and lip gloss most days, with an occasional touch of blush.

It’s almost like you grew up without someone to show you the way and you want to make a virtue out of it.

But pizzagirl, you’ve seen me! Don’t you think I emulate Tammy Faye perfectly?

I always wondered how Tammy Faye Baker got that much mascara on her eyelashes. I wish she had a youtube video just so I could watch it take place. I don’t want to emulate it-I just can’t even believe it’s possible!

Depending on how skilled you are you can tell when makeup is not blended well or in different types of light you can notice the application of foundation. I’ve noticed sometimes it can appear caked on and then you end up looking at the makeup vs how natural the makeup looks.

Wis75–It’s perfectly fine if you don’t wear make-up, who cares, but why bother to post if you have nothing to add to the discussion except to rebuke those of us who are interested in the topic and wear make-up.

MofD–Your wish has been granted. Go to YouTube for “Make-up Lesson with Tammy Faye Baker.”

^^You’re kidding!!! (goes off to youtube…)

Ah, well that mystery is solved. She glues tons and tons of individual lashes on to her eyelashes, and then covers them with waterproof mascara. And then LEAVES THEM ON UNTIL THEY WEAR OFF.

Some things are better not knowing. ^#(^

You guys are making me laugh.

When S was in HS, I went along as a parent chaperone/driver for a choir concert performance in another city. The choir director exhorted the young women not to “go all Tammy Faye Bakker on the makeup application.” After he left the room, I asked the young women if they knew who Tammy Faye Bakker was. Nope. I brought up an image of her on my cell phone and showed them. They were horrified and couldn’t believe it was real.

^cute story.
We love the DVD “Eyes of Tammy Faye”.
When D or her friends are upset it is their go to place.

I am afraid to admit that I find Chanel mascara the best. I’ve tri d every drugstore variety over the years.

I am afraid to admit that, too, bookworm. I especially like the dark violet one, it is not as intense as the black and looks natural on my eyelashes.
