I stumbled across this cool thing called Birchbox - you sign up and for $10 a month they send you a cute little box filled with 4-5 deluxe makeup samples/beauty products. Shipping is free and you can cancel your subscription anytime. The samples are all high-end brands (like what you would find in Sephora), and they send you things based on a Beauty Profile you fill out on their website. Part of the fun is that you have no idea what they’re sending you each month - it’s a surprise!

This seems like a fun way to try out products if you love makeup and beauty stuff - has anyone tried this before? I’m thinking it would be a good Christmas gift for my sister… $10 a month is pretty reasonable, but I know she wouldn’t be crazy about getting perfume or weird face wash, so I hope they take the Beauty Profile seriously. Any input would be much appreciated! : -)

My friend does it and loves it. I have been debating trying it. My only concern is that I would never actually BUY cosmetics that expensive, the samples would merely be for fun, and I fear if I actually TRIED high end cosmetics I may not be able to resist buying them for real and that would be substantially more expensive than $10 a month…

I got this for my DD. She’s had it for 3 months now. Beyond the “surprise,” I haven’t noticed much enjoyment, though. The samples aren’t what I’d call upscale; they’re mostly brands that aren’t widely carried. I’ve not noticed any customization, either…if you search Birchbox, there are many “this is what I got” videos, and most of the boxes, with little exception are the same. A lot of “Ahava,” and typically a perfume sample. When I get around to it, I’ll probably cancel.
