Making friends in Big Lecture

Hey guys, this title of the post is totally going to make me look like a social failure (and a stereotypical Berkeley nerd) but let me just say in advance - I am not!!!

So for my sociology class, we are suppose to form groups to complete part of our final projects (which i think is kinda pointless but I am open to it). And as I was reading the instruction of our final projects, I realized that i have no friend in the class. at all. zip, zero, nada.

Usually I have no trouble making friends. I am quite outgoing and have made new friends through out my semesters in Berkeley. But just not in this class!! The class is at eight in the morning, most people are either paying attention or too tired to socialize. To make matter worse, there is no discussion for me to meet and talk to people.

So now, we are suppose to form a group and get some initial planning done before April 5. Did i mentioned that we are getting graded for this? HAHAA. So I just have to make three friends in two week to form a group. and hopefully we all work well together. (Oh well, loser can’t be choser, right?!)

I guess this is more like a post to share my quite pathetic situations than a post asking for help. But if you guys have any suggestion, feel free to tell me. So yeah, lesson for some freshies, make friends in big lectures!!

Hope you guys are having a great spring break. School start soon!! Congrats to those who got in to Berkeley!! And hugs and kisses to those who are disappointed :/

Wear a shirt that says “Ripping the spines out of 3 year olds : The new cool”

LOL, your comment made my night. I will consider that!!

In CS, we just meet people and form groups on the newsgroups.

You get the funny case where you know a bunch of names but have no idea who they are or what they look like. :)

there are probably a lot of people in your situation. you could just be ballsy and stand in front of the class before section and say “would anyone still looking to form a group be interested in pairing up?”

i saw one person do that one time and even though she was pretty shot down, she got a group at the end of lecture. go figure (may be easier for girl…? idk, but i guess you don’t really have a choice in the matter, so at least try)

sounds like the sociology professor is doing an experiment on the class itself
