I am currently a student at cc. I need to make up two courses I took in the spring semester that I did not pass. Is it possible to get good grades to make up for the two courses in the fall to be able to get into a UC for the 2012 fall semester? My gpa without the two courses is a 3.65 with 35 units.

Did you fail them with a D or a F? If so, you can, the old grade will be dropped and the new grade when calculating your GPA automatically when you apply. You include your class with the failing grade along with the class with the passing grade when you fill out the application for their respective semesters and the grade is updated automatically.

I got two D’s will it affect my chances of admission if I apply this fall for fall 2012 admission even if I plan on making them up this coming fall semester?

If you take those classes next fall. Your new grades will be sent in during the January update. The UC’s will see the old D, but they will also replace the grade that you received with the new grade and they will use the improved grade to calculate your GPA and determine admissions.

In conclusion, yes, it will help a lot. With all else being equal in the future and me not knowing anything else about you other than that you have a 3.65 with the possibility of increasing it further by retaking the classes, you have a good chance everywhere that you apply.

A totally unrelated question to this thread but do UCs look at academic dishonesty because I was caught for plagiarism in one of my classes last semester?

How are my chances of getting to UCLA or UCSB as a psychology major with these stats along with making up the 2 D’s i got.

You’re guaranteed* to get accepted to get accepted to any UC you apply to with the exception of UCLA and Berkley. For these last schools, you are definitely competitive for them but as long that you are above a certain threshold the probability of acceptance to those schools is seemingly based on chance, not to say that you don’t have a good chance of getting into at least one of them.

For now on, keep up the good work. Get A’s in those two classes, apply everywhere that you want to go.

I hate when question posts surreptitiously turn into chance-me posts lol.

Sorry it is just I am apprehensive about my chances transferring to a good college with the two D’s I received.

You are cooked. Academic dishonesty is perhaps the one thing that there is never any forgiveness for by the UCs.
