Horrific.
That’s awful. Hate seeing things like this. No witnesses? Friday night in Ann Arbor is fairly active. I was actually only a few minutes away from that spot right at that time Friday evening.
Has this been confirmed ? There was another incident report out of Louisiana , but the 18 year old student admitted that she fabricated the story.
I’m clearly missing something- where does it say no witnesses?
The alert we got from the police department said there were several witnesses and they all gave the same description.

I agree. The handful of fabricated cases make the other 99% of reported cases less believable. People who make false reports should pay dearly IMO.
The woman who fabricated the story is being charged. How about the perp here?
It’s unfortunate the news article doesn’t mention the witnesses. Look at the comments, if you dare. Romani - you should chime in with the info about witnesses to hopefully shut some of it down.

Agreed, if the story is true. The following story, which is true, is even more horrific.
My D sent me several stories of racial incidents in SoCal since the election. Lots of intolerant people coming out the woodwork right now. I hope it’ll burn itself out soon rather than turning into a protracted cultural turn.
In L. A. last night a policeman was beaten by members of the angry mob and his gun was stolen.
A man on the west side of Chicago was pulled out of his car and beaten by the mob and his car was stolen.
Portland downtown now has a million dollars in property damage done.
All of this, including the OP’s incident is absolutely inexcusable.

I had shared the story after only a brief read since I had already seen the police alert. I thought maybe there was something there that I just wasn’t seeing (and it wouldn’t be the first time today that I missed something blatant!)
The video of that has been promoted by several right-wing and White supremacist websites as an example of violence due to “reverse-racism” and politics. However, according to the police, it stemmed from a traffic dispute, not race and politics:

Had to post the snopes link to several friends postings of that video after finding the sites they linked from were politically partisan or even from White supremacist websites.
You apparently didn’t hear the audio in which “Trump voter” can be heard shouted by the mob. I did not see it on a White Supremacist website. I saw it on the TV news.
All of this is very bad for the country. In a democracy, no one should be intimidated, beaten, assaulted for any reason. (Self defense excluded).
The ones shouting “Trump voter” in the video weren’t the ones beating the victim.
They were spectators egging on the assailants.
According to the snopes post, the police stated the actual cause which motivated the beating by the assailants was due to a traffic dispute, not race or politics.
It would be naive for us to think that the often crude and incendiary language used in the campaign didn’t have a negative impact on our society, didn’t result in heightened suspicions, fear and even violence.
That’s just one of many reasons why so many of us were appalled by it. And aren’t much surprised at the aftermath.
This is story makes me cry but also gives me hope that the bigots wont win.

As soon as this story got sent out, a friend of mine started a gofundme to buy pepper spray for anyone on campus/in AA that wants it (for free). It was $200 to get 50 (including shipping, gofundme fees, etc). He hit the target in 90 minutes and we’re now at over double the target and still growing so he’s already ordering another 50.
I will always believe that there is WAY more good in the world than bad, but in the mean time I want my friends and everyone else to just be safe.
Apparently the man wanted to exchange insurance information. Whether the crowd incited the beating is uncertain, but they didn’t do anything to try and stop it. Police are still looking for the perps.
