manageable college work

I know that we all try to get our kids into the “best” college possible, but I can’t help but wonder if we sometimes set our kids up for more than they can handle at college.

What colleges have your A/B students found to be manageable? Extra help offered?

If you know anything about the coursework at UDelaware, UMASS Amherst, Towson, Ithaca, Binghamton please let me know.

Good question questbest. I recently read that for a child to have an academically beneficial time at college while still being able to enjoy and partake in athletics and other EC’s that you should look for you child’s ACT/SAT score to be at the very top of the 50% range. (Unless you child is a super driven, extremely organized workhorse)

Actually the most “selective” colleges often are the ones that provide the most support (free tutoring, lots of peer and faculty advising, etc.)

And no school will accept the student if they are not sure that s/he is capable to do the work needed to graduate.

That said, at every single college half of the students graduate at the bottom 50% of their class…

While much is made of SATs as it’s a nice comparable tool and one that colleges use in competing in the selection and rankings game, it is not a good predictor of performance in college.

If I recall correctly- I’m sure someone else on here has the data from college board- SATs only predict freshman grades, and even then they only explain 22% of variance in freshmen grades, with more variance explained by highschool grades and rank.

Have you seen the list of, “A+ Schools for B Students”?
