Management building

what if you could potentially be going into second year? Isn’t that reason enough to get you an advisor asap? Because I’m pretty confused with all the core courses, and then the complementary courses, and the required courses for each major or whatever. For the required courses for each major or minor or whatever, does it matter when you take them? Like, can I start taking them first year? I hate having to flip back and forth in that big course calendar.

i got the e-mail addresses of each faculty advisor in an e-mail from mcgill…not sure if everyone else got it as well.

Here was what it said:

Hope this helps.

bittersweet…i feel ur pain…

i am even more confused over my IB credits i will be getting and the fact that i want to do a minor in pyscholgy as well is even more confusing…

oh well i guess wait till august or something…

the coursebook is pretty useless i must add…

I actualy got an email from my faculty advisor a few days ago

is faculty advisor the same thing as…you know, the advisor you keep in touch with throughout the duration of your degree? I really hope mine gets in touch with me soon. Do the faculty advisors, or whoever was listed above, reply to emails during the summer? Or within a decent time frame? I’m probably being over anxious, but I can’t help it.

dkm- which major/program/stream are you doing? I was accepted to do a major in Finance but I think I want to do the joint honours in finance and economics, which makes this whole process even more confusing. I think I’m going to take some time to map out all the courese I could potentially take and figure this out. You know, take different scenarios i.e. if I get 5’s on all higher levels, no 5’s, etc. although that will be kind of tedious.

According to the email she’s gone be my advisor throughout my Degree, and also to write her with any questions…

hey bittersweet- it’s easier to get the advisor who emails you to actually talk to you. mine answers the same day. on the other hand, if you try to get through to anybody on the list MaxiJaz so kindly provided, don’t hold your breath for a reply. In any case, your advisor can kinda be your go-between, that’s what they’re there for.

i just e-mailed the advisor for arts and science yesterday, i got a reply today saying that they haven’t assigned me an advisor as yet, but when they do, which should be near the course selection date, they r supposed to contact me. I think that applies to every1 for art and sci…but for other faculties, there is a single advisor i think…maybe cos that faculty is pretty big

bittersweet…

i got accpeted for econmics major…but i actually want to do a major in marketing with a minor in pyschology…

i dont which stream i should pick…because i am not sure i will enough electives left over to compelete my minor…so i might have to pick stream I and do just a concentration in marketing and pyschology minor…

I’m sure you can switch majors and switch from economics to marketing. Then you can do your minor in psychology. Did you still want to do economics? I think the first stream…the general business stream or whatever is the one where you can do double majors and stuff right? and the second stream is the one where you concentrate more on a business area or something? I dunno…the difference between the first two streams are kinda fuzzy to me…But if you didn’t want to do economics anymore, I’m pretty sure you can change your minor. I think that was one of the advantages of going directly into second year, we get to declare our majors earlier or something.

no i dont want to do economics…i had too much of IB economics HL…i hope i dont have to do econ again actually (praying i get a 5)…i hope they give me credit for all the required econ courses…

and i am not sure i will be going into second year…since i dont have the math requirement…

how many credits do they give you for doing HL economics? I doubt they’ll give you all of the requirements. There are quite a few and there is no way they’re going to give them all to you. They’ll probably give you the basic ones, like microeconomic theory and macroeconomic policies or whatever they’re called. I found a website for science transfer credits, but not for business, so…I still have to take some time out to figure all of this out. The only problem is I never want to start because I know it’ll be time-consuming and frustrating.

you get 6 credits for each of ur HL courses…

damn ur right…there are way too many econ courses…i can’t skip nothing…

btw u mind giving me that site for science transfer credits…2 of my HL happen to be sciences…so i guess it kind of applies to me

http://www.mcgill.ca/artscisao/new/standing/</a>
start from here
and you can get up to 10 for a hl course, if it’s your major, and if it fits in with the rest of your program. if they can begrudge you the credit though, they will… that’s my take on it since my advisor jus flipped me off when i asked her a question on that. she’s all like- wait til july okay? then i can reject your course choice and you’ll be clearer on everything

hmm i’m reading all this and…you guys are such eager beavers hehe

if you’re in management, switching from one stream to another is easy. in fact, you could be registered for one stream/program and only register to take the classes for another if you’re planning to switch.

too bad the management website is so vague. oh, and the ron advisor guy replies really quickly btw if you have any questions to email him…
