I am a Mech E right now and I’m thinking about switching to IEOR because I’m interested in management consulting, and because i am really hating all the physics type classes I’m taking, although I dont mind E45. Is this a good idea, and do IEOR majors fair pretty well at getting recruited to firms such as Mckinsey, Bain, BCG, Booz, etc. How about compared to other majors?

From the looks of it, quite a lot people do go into consulting:

bump…

Well, if you really want to do MC, then your clearest shot would be (unsurprisingly) garnered by majoring in busad at Haas.

However, the truth is, it doesn’t really matter what you major in if you want to get into MC. Your major is a relatively minor consideration. What will really matter are your personal attributes, i.e. your public speaking skills and your social skil, as well as any relevant work experience. Hence, instead of spending too much time worrying about which major to be in, I would instead concentrate on finding internships and developing communications skills.

GPA matters too.
