Mandelbrot Competition?

So I’m doing the Mandelbrot Competition this year, but I’m only doing the regional one (Mountain). After two of five rounds, I’m currently tied for 20th (though I’d be tied for 10th if I hadn’t put 3^6 = 181). Is this worth putting on my applications? Schools I’m applying to are University of Rochester, Stanford, MIT, Caltech, Rice, and Reed. More info at mandelbrot.org. Also, if I should put it on, should I note that I expect to do better since I was still getting used to the format of the questions and stuff like that?

No. I do it as well, and it’s not really worth mentioning in my opinion. Twentieth in the regional competition is nice, but it’s not like it will make any difference at all. I think I put that I was on the team on my extended resume, since we did very well.

That’s sort of what I was thinking. I’d say the same thing applies to my qualification for the University of Northern Colorado Math Competition (which is amazingly easy to qualify for; I did as an 8th grader as well). I’m definitely putting that I was on the winning team of the large school team competition at Colorado State University Math Day. Also, I’m on the team that’s currently 4th after Round 1 in the ARML Power Contest, and also the team that’s in first place for Colorado Math League. Those latter two seem like they’d be more helpful? Also, last year I got a 100 on the AMC 12, which isn’t all that great, so I was wondering if I should put that there as well.

ARML is well known; AMC and AIME definitely put. I would put Power Contest (I did…), but the Math League isn’t very important IMO. It’s not very difficult, and it doesn’t really mean anything…again, my opinion.

Don’t know what my AIME score was, though it wasn’t good since I expressed a lot of answers in the wrong format (I tried the first 10 questions again a while ago and got 6, which is good news for next time). Ya, Math League isn’t really hard at all. I tend to call it Reading League, personally. Thanks for the help.
