Manhattan College appealing financial aid

Has anyone had any luck on this? What is the best approach? In person on accepted student’s day? Email? There have been some changes in my husband’s work. He owns his own business and work has been almost non existent for the last five months. There are other factors though (we need to put some money towards my other son’s education. Though he is still in high school, he will need tutoring and we have paid for classes in the past. (We homeschool but by high school we outsource math and science and sometimes other classes.) Is it helpful to mention this or does that just weaken the loss of work aspect. Also, any other tips, particularly relating to Manhattan College or general thoughts. Thank you.

You should contact the college. Many schools have a process for re-evaluating your need based aid. Contact the college and find out what you need to do.

Does your student have an affordable acceptance?

Yes, but it’s not his first, second, third, etc. choice. Considerably down the list.

How much more do you need? $2000? $20,000?

You should contact Manhattan and ask their process for reviewing your need based aid award. They will tell you what you need to do.

They will also tell you if they do these reviews at all. Some colleges do and some don’t.

Thank you.

The only person to contact is the Vice President of enrollment. He is the sole person that makes decisions on appeals

If your home schooled child has a special need or medical need for tutoring, I’d mention that but otherwise it is a choice you made to home school and the tutoring or other cost might be covered if he were in public school.
