Many classmates applying to my dream school

I want to apply to SUNY Purchase and their creative writing program because of their wonderful hippie vibe and I think (emphasis on the word think) that it would be in my range. My problem is that many (at least four, but maybe more) of my classmates are at least thinking of applying there. I go to a strange private school with only 20 kids in my grade. Two of the classmates are applying there because they think it’s within their range, but I doubt that they have my connection with the vibe, based on their personalities. One kid wants to apply to their prestigious music program while the other two are looking into Liberal arts. I’m def. applying early action. I live and go to school in Westchester County, where Purchase is. I know that colleges don’t want too many kids at one school going there, especially at such a small one. One boy got accepted there two years ago. Any advice? Here are my stats:
GPA: 2.9
SAT Reading: 650
SAT math: 520
extra currics: Writopia, a creative writing class in NYC and I am heavily involved with my school’s charity club, Build On, where a few students are going to Nicaragua to build a school. As a matter of fact, I did a lot of event planning and fund raising, but two of the kids applying to purchase are going to the country while I am not.

Number from your high school would be an issue at many private colleges, but not at state schools.

Your bigger issue is your own chance of admission. The SUNY Purchase website states that “Generally, successful freshman applicants have at least a 3.0…” You will want to carefully review the criteria for admissions decisions and consider how you are going to overcome that challenge.

Thanks! I’m a very good writer, so my biggest priority is making a killer essay and I’m just above their minimum SAT range.

bumpity bump

You answered your own question. Just work as hard as you can and don’t worry about what other folks are doing.

State schools don’t care how many kids come from one high school.

Does Purchase have EA or ED?

I’m applying EA.
