MAP scores

At my school we take this standerized test called MAP (Missouri Assessment Program). You take test over the general core areas. So anyways I"ve always been bad at bad. But I just got my test scored back and scored in the top 10%tile. Do colleges look into that?

Thanks

Colleges don’t know how you did on those tests, unless you write it on your app. But I don’t think it’s going to help you that much even if you do put it in.

The reason why I ask, is cause I’ve done really bad in math (D) but, for some reason when I take these math standarized test I always score in the top 10% tile. Just as I did in the most recent one. So would it even be worth sending?

You can show math ability in a more widely accepted format by doing well in the SAT I Math section and the SAT II Math IIC exam. Sometimes good test scores can help mitigate grades that don’t seem to match, but there might be some raised eyebrows, depending how much discrepancy there was between grades and scores.

I think many states have assessment programs similar to the MAP you mention, but I’ve never heard of anyone reporting their scores on such programs in their applications. (It might have happened, but I haven’t heard of it.)

Maybe you can ask one of your recommenders (like your guidance counselor) to mention this high score in their recs. But like mootmom said, doing well on math SATs would have a more positive effect.

Our high school grads have to pass the MCAS in order to graduate - it is a state mandated test - they results are considered for any application to a state school - gotta pass it in order to be grad - to be able to apply - so yes these scores do hold some weight. Our Governor just initiated a program for the highest scoring students in our state - free tuition - tho it is not such a huge thing cuz the tuition is about 2000 but the required fees are about 7000 and not included in this ‘gift’.

I could get you a 99th percentile score for your MAP test if you wanted me to ;)
