March 10th

I know March 10th is around the corner, but I recently got the news that I won a poem contest in my school. Also, my second quarter grades are ALOT better than the first, and I would like to send them to the schools I am applying to.
Should I bother sending these materials in? Do you think its worth it? Thanks!

I think that you could try but at the same time schools may have already made their decisions about you so whatever you send in may not have any effect.

Yes and yes. Send the new information asap. It can’t hurt and it might help.

Really? I told my daughter not to send anything after the deadline…I wonder whether that was wise.

Actually I would hold off on sending the materials now. They probably have either already finished making your decisions or are just finishing up, so any materials sent now probably would not make a difference (as it is 10 days until M10. I also believe that they start sending out envelopes on M8/M9, as what I have read on CC threads).

I would wait to hear the admissions decisions on M10. If you are wait-listed, then you should mention the new accomplishments.

I actually would send it ASAP. Many private schools and JBS automatically send those new grades, so they’re used to getting them, and it shows your enthusiasm. It might not matter (decisions may already be made), but it won’t hurt. Send to person who interviewed you-- you can even email everything to make it faster. Make note very brief (“Just thought I’d update you…”)

Let me elaborate on my answer to OP’s query…

There are several possible outcomes on March 10. Getting rejected is one of the unpleasant ones. There is one worse than that though; getting rejected and living with regret - regret of not doing everything you could have done to get admitted.

If you do everything - everything in your power - and you get rejected, you have nothing to regret, nothing to second guess. You did your best and you can be proud you gave it your all. However, if you held something back, such as this, you face the prospect of forever wondering “what if I had just told them about my improved grades, my poetry award.”

I disagree with the notion of holding back this information for use if/when you get waitlisted. You should do everything possible not to be waitlisted. There is next to no joy from waitlists. The odds of acceptance are incredibly low for regular admission, massively lower from a waitlist.

I and my family have been through this repeatedly, including precisely your situation. There is zero downside to sending on your new info as soon as possible.

Actually, rather than just sending your info the school(s), might be best to CALL each AO you have been working with (your prime on site advocates), tell them about your new news and ask what could be done to get that information into the mix. I would not leave a voice message if you can’t reach them, I would call back until you manage to speak to each directly.

I totally agree with @agincourt send it in,especially the grades. If you send a polite email it absolutely can’t hurt and what’s the worst case? They ignore it? Ok then you are in the same situation you are without sending. The advice to “wait for the wait list” is just bad advice. This idea that the AOs just have spots that they are handing out to those who need them from M10-A10 is just flat out wrong. If the class is full no one will get in off the wait list and you will keep wondering if the improved grades would have helped. FYI I inow a kid who had a Skype interview just a couple of days ago and they followed up yesterday asking for some extra EC info. Decisions are not finalized, what do you think they are doing for the next 10 days?? Early vacation?? A lot of the work is done but on the off chance they are on the fence about you send the better grades!

Decisions are no way finalized at this point. This is when the class is being shaped and things change up until the 11th hour. Send it in…cannot hurt at all

Call or email the info! You have nothing to lose!

Thank you all so much! I just sent in the additional materials today!
