Marching band AND football

[2 ways to march down the field – themorningcall.com](http://www.mcall.com/news/local/all-b1_4roman.6096208nov05,0,7364143.story)

This article was in my local paper this morning along with a couple of great pictures of this bando/football player. I love it!

"Jordan Roman is a really good musician.

But it’s not his baritone playing that makes him stand out among 250 others in the Liberty High School Grenadier Band.

It’s his football uniform."…

The band he’s in is a really good one too and travels quite a bit. If our high school does a festival with them we know from the get go that they will win all the top honors.

That is priceless.

The pictures remind me of the time when my D was a senior, and the band got two members voted into the Homecoming Court. They rode into the game in their formal attire, then, after the homecoming ceremony at halftime, went out in tux and long gown to play the half-time show, the girl on piccolo, the guy playing trumpet. The band was so proud!

As well they should be. At our high school it would be something of a breakthrough for band kids to get on the Homecoming Court - a departure from the usual parade of football jocks and cheerleaders.

Yeah, it took a lot of “concerted” effort on the part of the band to make it happen.

i’ve seen cheerleaders who are also in marching band. lol.

My brother also does both band and football. I have to brag – last week, he scored his first varsity touchdown! And then the next day, the band got a superior rating at state contest. It was a good weekend for him.

my freshman year i tried doing band and cross country… unfortunately it didn’t really work for me :(

wow–congrats to molliebbro!

coureur - our band dominates things like Homecoming Court! Sheer numbers rule after all. This year, at least half the freshman court were band members, including… yes…ldboy.

Ya gotta get those band kids to ‘organize’ at your high school…lol!

Wow. Busy kid. He’s lucky band practice is in the morning, and football in the afternoon.

Our HS had a kid who did both a few years ago, which was amazing as they both practice after school. It took some understanding and cooperation on the part of both the band director & the football coach.

I think that’s awesome… just shows that the school environment supports both activities equally; otherwise, neither the football coach or band director would be willing to work with the schedule conflicts.

We’ve had cheerleaders in marching band, too. And our homecoming courts/turnabout courts/prom courts typically have a good representation of athletes and band/choir kids.

Our homecoming King this year is the QB of the football team and a track star but also is known for being really talented artist. He has taken every art class offered at our high school and often sketches drawings on the team bus riding to ballgames. S2 and all the other football players think it’s great. Yah for multitalented kids.
