Marching Band?

Is the marching band cut or no cut…specifically the drumline?
Also, what type of time commitment do you make for marching band?

Thank you.

My ds has been in the marching band for the last two yrs but not in the drumline. I will ask him re: your specific ?s but in the meantime - here are some links in case you haven’t seen them
[Pitt Drumline](http://www.pittdrumline.com/Home)

Thank you Amadakayak: We did view the links and the drumline speaks for auditions. However, it also references that they are to establish skill set and says things along the lines of “All that is required is that you love to drum” statements.
Therefore, is the audition just a formality and for placement (instrument and ‘chair’’ level) or is it a competitive process where only so many drummers/cymbals players can make the line?

I would send an email directly to ask your questions - I believe there were a few contact emails on the drumline site, they would know best. This will be the first season with a new director - there could be some changes but speaking for the other sections (my ds is in the saxes), there was an audition but no cuts (unlike PSU where we were told a good percentage of frosh don’t make the cut). Sorry, I didn’t ask my son about your questions on time commitment - they play at home games and make one away game trip - this year at VTech - that could mean 2-3 days away from campus. Also there is the chance for a bowl game trip. On game days (ex. Sat afternoon), they are commited to band from early am through about dinner so that is a long day. Definately need to be good at time management to not fall behind on classwork.
