Maria Shriver's Daughter Waitlisted at BC

In her remarks at Tim Russert’s memorial, Maria Shriver admitted that her daughter didn’t get in to Boston College. I think this is huge and says some pretty good things about BC. There must have been some pretty big pressure, self-imposed or otherwise, to accept a Kennedy and a Schwarzzeneger.

My thought is that BC waitlisted her figuring she’d be probably going to Harvard or something along those lines… but no, Katherine Swartzenegger is USC bound…

Interesting, doesn’t she already live in CA?
Ive heard students really love it though.

Yes, they live in LA so she’s not even going ‘away’ to school.

Doesn’t the governor live in Sacramento, the state capital, and not in LA?

Schwartzenneger decided not to… he stays in Sacto when he has to, but otherwise “commutes” by his own private plane.

The Kennedy clan isn’t full of rocket scientists. She might have missed the mark by a mile.

Perhaps the waitlist was BC’s way of saying, “Excuse us, but are you certain you mailed the big donation check? Because it’s not showing up in our records.”

USC sounds like a bit better school at least according to US News stats.

Lower admission rate, higher alumni rate of donations, smaller class size, lower faculty/student ratio, slightly higher average test scores.

About twice as large however( Also not Catholic) - but can we say better weather? ;)

Wow, how embarrassing for the daughter - to have your mother give out your admissions results in a nationally-televised event.

And it’s also comforting to find out that Kennedys don’t have an automatic in at places like Harvard, and thus ones that do get admitted may have actually earned it - e.g. Caroline Kennedy’s daughter is currently a rising junior at Harvard.

^^^ yes they freaking do.
JFK Jr. got into HYP despite being an average student. In the end, he went to Brown.

^^I’m thinking that, on name recognition alone, someone named “John F. Kennedy Jr.” probably has a much stronger automatic in at Harvard than a mere Kennedy cousin. Kinda like the difference between being HRH Charles, Prince of Wales and being the Earl of Bedpan or other lesser peer.

How many Kennedy cousins are currently college age?

About 700… ;)

no kidding, I thought that was a little strange, even if she was using the ancedote to illustrate her friendship with Russert.

I remember that- I had never heard of it-
I believe he was dyslexic- like his dad, which also can go along with other learning differences ( not to mention it is heritable ) he seemed very intelligent but he had to take the bar more than once. Brown also seems to be the Ivy where students with LDs end up, at least that is where the authors of [Learning Outside the Lines](http://www.indiana.edu/~slizzard/lol/) attended.

where else was she accepted?
I would expect the governator’s daughter to get in to UCLA or Berkeley.

I had wanted to give my daughter for high school graduation-something with wise advice- has anyone read this?

For heaven’s sake, she’s not a mere Kennedy cousin. Her father is the Governor of California and a famous movie actor. Many people would recognize the name “Schwarzenegger.”

Oh, and have we forgotten GW Bush - a Yale grad? How’d that happen?

Folks, have you forgotten that J.F. Kennedy Jr. was a Harvard legacy? Having had a grandfather, father and three uncles attend Harvard got the attention of the admissions office (in addition to being a president’s son, to paraphrase John Fogarty [“Fortunate Son”]).
