MARKETING DEGREE BETTER THAN COMPUTER SCEINCE

IN the fall of 2017 I will be most likely going to akron u summit college and I am having trouble picking a major my first choice is computer science but the technical math really get’s me worried so I was wonder is marketing a better option what 's the pay rate and job opening.

@Wdahn you should pick the major that you are most interested in and think you can handle. Both majors have good career opportunities.

I am a comp. science master’s student and haven’t seen much advanced math beyond linear algebra. Some of the more theoretical CS courses at the undergraduate level might use a lot of discrete math (logic, graph theory, combinatorics) but it should be pretty manageable with practice.

Majors don’t have pay rates. Jobs have pay rates. You could become a marketing manager and make $130K+ or you could become a software developer at a small start-up or nonprofit and make not very much money at all. On average, software developers do make more money than most people who work in marketing, but there’s a lot of variation and marketing positions usually make pretty decent salaries.

Also, you are not primarily concerned with quantity of job openings; you are concerned with quality. There are a lot of fast food and retail positions out there, but that’s not what you want to do, right? You want to train well for something that interests you and that you can be good at. An excellent graphic artist may have more career opportunities and success than a mediocre engineer.
