My son was accepted and we’re happy with the amount of scholarship money he received. He’s going to major in Political Science and is very interested in the Les Aspin Center of Government in DC. Anyone familiar with that program?

Applied 10/28 admitted 12/17. $30k scholarships

3.93 unweighted. Did not take standardized tests - may affect merit, but definitely less stress. 4-yr varsity swimmer - State Team, Team Captain, President Volunteer Service award. Volunteers at local hospital and also worked throughout high school. NHS, National Arts honor society, National Language Arts Honor Society, National Science Honor Society. Studying Biology (Pre-Health). Great Essay and (2) good optional recommendations.

My son was also accepted to Marquette and is considering PSC too. I’m actually a PSC professor at a school with a similar profile to Marquette. I’m also the Internship Coordinator, which means I help students find positions in DC (and elsewhere) and interact with our many alumni working there.

I don’t know that much about the Aspin Center specifically, but I can say it is a big advantage for students interested in DC to have an in-house program like that. We out-source ours through a different university, which is very common. I wish we had an Aspin Center.

When we first learned of the program on our campus visit, it certainly sounded appealing to a student studying political science. I just can’t find too much information about it. It will certainly be something that we ask about in more depth when we do a 2nd look. Thanks for your perspective. It was very helpful.

Daughter accepted with 30k merit. 3.7 unweighted gpa. Not sure if she submitted test scores. She really liked the school when we toured. Great option!

My kids are attending my alma mater, but just want to keep the thread active. The new rec center opened in January.

S25 is getting anxious waiting for his pretzel since so many people are posting on social media. LOL.

Son just got accepted with decent aid, but not in college of business, to the college of arts and sciences instead. If anyone can share what the campus/downtown vibe is like, would much appreciate it. We’ve never been to Milwaukee, don’t know what to expect. Thanks!

Milwaukee is kind of industrial and the neighborhood isn’t that safe to walk around in by yourself at night. I think like any bigger city, students have to just be smart about where they are. It’s not a small college town (even though the campus itself looks like one).

Our son is a senior and will likely attend next year. We’ve visited a few times over the last few months to get a feel for the city and school. We’ve walked all around and to basketball games. Milwaukee seems like it’s becoming a great city, especially in the warmer weather. Tons of restaurants, lakefront, the whole area around Fiserv Forum is awesome. Campus is very nice and then you also have the city at your disposal. I think Marquette PD is pretty well staffed and diligent as for as we’ve heard.

Marquette feels like a great fit.
