Hi! I was hunting around for a Marquette thread and didn’t find one, so thought I would start one!
My S24 top choice is Marquette. He is just waiting on the 3-3 DPT decision later this month. We just got a big Marquette pretzel in the mail so that was exciting!
My son was accepted and is also waiting to see if he was admitted to the 3+3 DPT program. He got the pretzel today as well. Other than the big state school, he only applied to schools that have freshman-admit DPT programs, all out-of-state. He visited Marquette in August. While it’s not in his top 2, it’s probably right there, and we will likely visit again before a decision is made. He’s yet to be accepted to one of his top schools and is awaiting word from Saint Louis on whether he gets into DPT (already admitted to the university). He’s been accepted to all other DPTs, though he declined Elon before completing their separate DPT app (they don’t give out a ton of aid). Financial aid offers will be a strong consideration.
We sound like the kids are applying to the same places! Where’s his top choice? I feel like I didn’t dive enough into the programs to know where else to apply.
SLU gives so much money it’s crazy. He and my husband are going for a visit next month. They will also visit depauw - another merit heavy school!
My kiddo also is applying places he would just go kine and do the extra classes. Waiting on UT and Madison / both heavy reaches.
We will decline Elon too - no aid was super unexpected. Waiting to see if he gets some scholarship from CU (separate apps) and still considering Denver bc of the big aid package.
His top schools are Quinnipiac and Boston. He visited Quinnipiac and Sacred Heart twice (really went back for Quinnipiac, but Sacred Heart is close by, and his mom hadn’t seen either yet). Quinnipiac aid is great as well, and it includes grad school scholarships, which no other school has offered. He won’t hear from Boston until the end of February. It’s a reach, we think.
He actually got merit from Elon, but it was far less than other schools. They encouraged him to apply for scholars and fellows as he could get more aid, but DPT students aren’t eligible.
We are in Colorado. He got into CU, very minimal aid, and no direct admit DPT. Being from here, he has friends that are going there and his girlfriend will stay here in town, so there is a pull to go to the state school. I’m an alum, but want him to go out of state for one of these DPT programs. It’s so much easier than applying for DPT grad school after he gets his bachelor. It’s so competitive. And, he seems clear this is what he wants to do. He has done a bit of shadowing.
We are maybe 15-20 minutes from DU, and he never had any interest.
Besides the schools I’ve mentioned in these posts, he applied to Drexel, Duquesne, St Joseph’s, and Seton Hall. He has visited all except for Saint Louis and Duquesne. We will likely visit Saint Louis if he gets into the DPT. I haven’t seen Marquette, but they offered to pay for his flight and hotel to visit again. If he gets into their DPT, I will likely go with him to visit.
Good luck to you and your son as well!
My kiddo fell in love with it there. He loved the city. We are from Texas so lots of kids staying in town or A&M or tech.
Ours thinks he wants DPT and isn’t a great tester with his adhd, hence the direct admit interest. But he also loves math and keeps saying what if I want finance and want to switch. So schools that have decent business and movement between majors is also of interest for us!
Yeah our kid wasn’t keen on DU but they give so much merit it may be worth another look. He LOVED CU.
Maybe check with Marquette to see if they would have that same offer for your son? They said because we are far away, it may not be as easy for us to visit, so they will pay.
We have received emails about it, but I just checked his admission portal and it’s also mentioned there. It says Colorado, but would imagine it’s available to admitted students from other states?
Not sure if tomorrow is the decision day for RD and/or Nursing. My son applied EA. He was accepted, but is just waiting on admission decision on DPT. That is supposed to come tomorrow.
