University of Maryland is having a raffle for a semester of free tuition by attending Saturday’s football game and staying to the fourth quarter.
Sad commentary on enthusiasm for UMD football!
They just fired the head coach, so they are probably looking to drum up some enthusiasm.
Anyway, UMD doesn’t have a big football culture, as far as I know. It’s just not one of the school’s main draws
that, in and of itself, may be a draw for my kid applying. Ironic.
But they have a terrific marching band!
UMD definitely not on the list of rah rah schools! But how exciting for the student who wins a free semester of tuition on Saturday!
omg yes! I hope I happen upon a video on social media:)
If one of my kids was at UMD, I would be paying them to stay for the whole game ![]()
ETA: One of my favorite happenings each week during football season is when the selected student makes the field goal on College GameDay!
I imagine a lot of parents are going to be calling their kids and yelling, “Why are you wasting your Saturday studying for a midterm? Go watch that game!” ![]()
My kids had no interest in football games in college, but I’d definitely make sure that they attended a game if they had a shot at free tuition!
Sadly, students did not show up.
My algorithm on instagram didn’t fail me, I saw the kid who won - Mech-e major who said his mom recently picked up another job to help pay tuition, seemed very deserving and very happy.
My husband was at the game. The seats were mostly empty and there were five finalists. Congrats to the winner.
My D was at the game with a friend and her family (IL fans). She said it was a very empty stadium, but they had fun and their team won.
They can sit in the nosebleeds, wear headphones, and study during the game! ![]()
